We've all been drawn together by our love for one game series, The Elder Scrolls and, more specifically Skyrim. So we all like the open world sandboxes that Bethesda are so good at creating. What other games of a similar ilk have you discovered that you think your fellow Skyrimers would enjoy and might not yet have discovered?
My first recommendation might seem a little obvious and many of you might have already played it as it's fairly recent: The Witcher 3. I bought this on release day and, at the time, persevered with it for about fifteen hours before abandoning it. I should have liked it; huge open world and a medieval fantasy setting, but it had some serious issues. Combat control and even general movement in world just felt a bit janky. After reading some more of the continuing adoration this game seems to generate both in online communities and the gaming press I decided to give it another shot about three weeks ago. Oh boy am I glad I did. Subsequent patches have remedied minor complaints but make no mistake, some of that jank is still there, but this game is great in spite of all that. It contains a beautiful, vast open world but the real star here are the stories it tells. Amazing narratives that will take you places you won't expect, populated by interesting characters that have great dialogue read by superb voice actors. It's a different kind of open world game from Skyrim, make no mistake, and it may take a while to shine, but I heartily recommend it to any of you that might want a bit of a holiday from those icy wastes.
